Framing a scene with words: Ekphrastic poetry writing.

Poetry that sees

Ekphrastic poetry has been described as ‘poetry that sees’. It is a practice of writing which responds to an artwork, both by describing it and providing an interaction with it. It interprets the artwork and raises questions about what lies beyond the frame of the picture. The process creates a dialogue between the poet, the viewer of the artwork and the reader. In this workshop, we’ll take a look at ekphrastic poetry techniques, including writing about art, landscapes and applying these practices to photography.
