
Favel Parrett
In 2011, Favel Parrett’s career was launched with her critically acclaimed debut Past the Shallow (on the current HSC text list). It was sold internationally, and was shortlisted in the prestigious Miles Franklin Award and won the Dobbie Literary Award. Favel won the ABIA Newcomer of the Year Award in 2012. Her next novel, When the Night Comes, was also critically acclaimed and further consolidated Favel’s reputation with booksellers and readers. There Was Still Love was Favel’s eagerly awaited third novel, which was shortlisted for the Stella Prize and won Book of the Year at the 2020 Indie Book Awards. Wandi is her first novel for children and was published in October 2021 (NESA recommended text Year 3). Kimmi is her second novel for children and was published in 2023.
She lives in Victoria and is passionate about wildlife.

Past the Shallows
Harry and Miles live with their father, an abalone diver, on the wild and beautiful south coast of Tasmania. With their mum dead and their alcoholic father largely absent, they look after each other as best they can. Over a school holiday while Miles works on the boat, Harry begins an unlikely friendship that will upset the delicate balance holding this unpredictable world together.
