Dr Sarah Wright is a local Bellingen author, researcher and academic from the University of Newcastle. She has worked with community groups and NGOs for over 25 years in Australia, Mexico, Kenya, South Africa, Cuba and the Philippines. She has lived and worked in Cuba helping coordinate the urban food production education project in Havana and in the Philippines where she worked with a network of subsistence organic farmers. For the past 8 years, she has worked closely with inspirational Yolŋu women from northeast Arnhem Land and has been adopted into the family at Bawaka homeland.

In 2013, she launched a book called Welcome to My Country, co-written with five Yolŋu women and two other academics that introduces readers to a Yolŋu world and life at Bawaka. She has also written over 65 refereed books, articles and conference papers. She currently lives in Thora with her husband Matt and daughter Heather.
