He is a member of the Garby Elders of Red Rock/Corindi and a member of the Garlambirla Guuyu-Girrwaa Elders group in Coffs Harbour.
An Aboriginal Discovery Ranger with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service,
Uncle Mark features in many North Coast tourism publications, hosts radio broadcasts, and appears in television programs both here and abroad.
‘Aboriginal people still have a close relationship with land and water country. I’m a custodian and knowledge holder for my country and culture, and I’m passionate about working with the National Parks and Wildlife Services [NPWS] as it educates people about these ancient lands. Aboriginal people also have a long-term vision when it comes to our relationship with the environment. NPWS is unique because it encourages people to enjoy our natural world without causing harm, preserving it for future generations.’
‘Uncle Mark’s knowledge about country provides an insight to Gumbaynggirr Aboriginal culture, he’s just awesome’
‘Mark is a wonderful guide, he shares stories and cultural knowledge and the kids just love him—his tours are excellent.’
