Media & Journalism: Real News, Fake News & The Future Of Good Journalism
Saturday 9 June
In Conversation: Wendy Bacon & Chris Nash
Sunday 10 June
A Foundation Professor of Journalism at Monash University, Chris and his colleagues have been building a truly innovative program, addressing the issues that confront journalism as the institutions and technologies that have sustained it for decades melt away or are radically transformed. The hallmark of their approach is the mutual interrogation of theory and practice, which is why they have the two streams of Journalism Practice and Journalism Studies in their courses.
Chris is particularly interested in the question of what is journalism, as an intellectual discipline, sitting alongside history, geography and sociology in the broad humanities. Feeling that journalism is, of course, a craft and a profession as well as a discipline and indeed an art form—none of which are mutually exclusive—in 2016 Nash published his provocative and original examination of this question What Is Journalism? The Art and Politics of a Rupture.
