Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival 2017

The Bellingen Readers & Writers Festival 2017 has undergone major changes. A funding grant, previously available to the festival, was not forthcoming, the Bellingen Memorial Hall was unavailable on the Saturday, and other logistical problems have popped up.

Consequently, for this year only, the committee has decided to concentrate on two of the festival’s strengths – the Schools’ Program and the Poetry Slam. These are elements of the festival that people love and both will be held on Friday June 9 this year.

Fresh strategies will be put in place with the help of our new part-time strategist Seth Jordan to ensure a successful Bellingen Readers & Writers Festival in 2018!

Coming to the Schools in 2017

Chris Collin is a full time author, presenter and managing director of Funkybooks Pty Ltd, a company he created for the purpose of publishing and promoting his whacky, rhyming Australian Children’s books; all of which are best sellers.

His first book Funky Chicken: A Bushy Tale of Crocs and Chooks was released in March 2013. This title is in the Australian curriculum (Qld C2C) and was shortlisted for the 2014 Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards. It is also in the Premiers Challenge Reading List in Queensland, NSW and Victoria.

His second book A Bug Called Doug was released in March 2013. This title is in the Qld Premiers Reading Challenge and was long-listed in the 2015-2016 ISLN (International School Library Network) Awards. This is a readers choice award which makes it extra special! With it’s many cross-curriculum applications, this book is widely used in schools and early learning centres around Australia.

Funky Chicken: Chooks in Space is the winner of the 2016 SPA (Speech Pathology Australia) Book of the Year Awards. Chris’ latest title Funky Chicken: Chooks in Space, the second in the Funky Chicken series was released in August 2015.
