A former Bellingen High School student, Tom is now a Political Reporter for the ABC, based in the Press Gallery in federal parliament.

He cut his teeth at the ABC as a producer, first for Promised Land local George Negus and then for fellow writer’s festival participant Kerry O’Brien.

Tom won a Walkley Award in 2005 as part of the Lateline team that uncovered the Vivian Solon scandal.

Prior to Canberra he was based in Beijing as China correspondent, where he covered deadly riots in Urumqi, the Burmese civil war and political machinations among China’s leadership.

After eight years in Canberra he’s already onto his fifth Prime Minister and has mopped up the blood on numerous factional death fights.
