Lisa Milner is a lecturer at the Southern Cross University’s Coffs Harbour campus. Her research interests include Australian screen production, community exhibition and organisation, union films, documentary filmmaking and national cinema, with a focus on the representation of working class and community groups.

She comes to academia with a background of production in film, video, radio, theatre and writing, in the non-commercial, educational, community-based and documentary sectors. Based on the mid-north coast of NSW, she also works with local groups involved in producing a range of works.

A member of the Nambucca Valley Writers Group, her books include Fighting Films: A History of the Waterside Workers Federation Film Unit (2003) and her recent biography of activist Freda Brown, Swimming Against The Tide (2017).
