Burringbar resident Jessie grew up in an isolated valley in Northern NSW and lived a bush childhood of creek-swimming and barefoot free-range adventuring. Her first novel, darkness on the edge of town was shortlisted for the 2013 Australian Literature Society Gold Medal and longlisted for the Dobbie Literary Award. Her second novel, Deeper Water (2014) was released to much critical acclaim with Portia Lindsay calling it “a fine and elegantly written novel” in the Weekend Australian. Jessie’s new memoir Staying has just been released.

Jessie Cole’s new memoir, Staying, is about the importance of home, family and forgiveness—and finding peace in a place of pain.

Cole’s work has also appeared in many Australian publications, including Good Weekend, Big Issue, The Guardian, Meanjin, The Lifted Brow and Best Australian Essays.
