Jason is a British-born Australian journalist, who attained BA Hons in American and English literature from the University of Kent in Canterbury. He began his career in 1980 as a sports reporter before moving into business journalism and joining the Financial Times in London.

He moved to Melbourne in 1987 and worked on Melbourne’s Herald, later joining the Sunday Age as its business editor, before moving into arts and books journalism. He became the literary editor of The Age in 2000 and he remains books editor of The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.

Between 2006 and 2017 Jason co-hosted ABC TV’s beloved The Book Club, alongside Jennifer Byrne and Marieke Hardy.
