Belinda Scott is a retired regional newspaper journalist. She jumped ship from teaching English to trying to write it in 1972 and is still trying. Her early years in the news business were spent in unheated, uncooled country offices coughing her way through cigarette smoke and beer fumes, pinning down business papers with lumps of lead type, in wet weather, donning a Drizabone to visit the outhouse way up the backyard.

Belinda worked in the Hunter Valley, the North West and North Coast; at the Scone Advocate; the Hunter Valley News and Muswellbrook Chronicle; the Namoi Valley Independent, the North West and Hunter Valley Magazine and latterly for the Coffs Coast Advocate and various other APN publications. She handled council and health rounds and reported all facets of local news and rural affairs. She retired from full-time employment as a senior writer with the Coffs Coast Advocate at the end of 2011.

Her own interests include country life, Australian history and literature, equality and the environment. She is currently trying to keep her mob of herefords and black baldies from starvation as they battle through a long-running drought in the Upper Hunter Valley.
