    Alana is one of Australia’s most critically acclaimed playwrights and was recently the co-recipient of a writing fellowship at the Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney.

    In 2018 her mentorship memoir called Bowerbird: the art of making theatre drawn from life was published, her play The Sugar House was presented at Belvoir St Theatre and Ear to the Edge of Time was staged at the Seymour Centre. This latter play won the 5th STAGE International Playwriting Award. Also in 2018, Merrigong Theatre Company toured Alana’s Letters to Lindy nationally, and she also worked with Bangarra Dance Theatre as dramaturg on their production Dark Emu, after successful collaborations on Bennelong, Patyegarang and ID.

    Her work Barbara And The Camp Dogs, co-written with Ursula Yovich and presented at Belvoir in 2017 was nominated in the 2018 Sydney Theatre Awards for Best New Australian Work and Best Original Score. In 2019 it is touring to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Wollongong and Canberra. Ladies Day, produced at Griffin in 2016 was nominated for the Nick Enright Prize for Drama (NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, 2017).
