“I was surprised to receive an invitation to the Bellingen Writer’s Festival….I wasn’t sure where it was and had not heard of the Festival.
I have attended Festivals for many years all over the country…including five last year.
Bellingen was a delightful experience. Though small and almost entirely staffed by volunteers it was run with a professional polish matching any of the big city festivals. All the arrangements worked well…sessions unfolded without and hitches; chairs were well chosen and prepared. The audiences were attentive and deeply engaged.
The village was an excellent location. A series of varied but appropriate venues were in close proximity–an important consideration. There was a range of quality cafes and restaurants close to venues. The sessions and attendant social occasions were all near enough to one another to provide a sense of propinquity…something often lost in larger festivals. Festival organizers obviously had close relations with the local Aboriginal community based on a sense of shared belonging to a delightful part of Australia……..”
” I thought BWRF was a wonderful festival. A diverse range of writers, interesting panels, very friendly organisers who look after everybody very well – all in a beautiful town. You couldn’t ask for much more really.”
I want to thank you and the wonderful team for making the festival such an enjoyable experience as well as a significant cultural event. I had a wonderful, enriching time and felt very privileged to be there.
I was constantly surprised by how welcomed I felt by you and your team and recognise that there is so much other writers festivals could learn from your humble and personal approach.
Thank you for your genuine hospitality and for the huge amount of work you and everyone involved puts in. I had an awesome, memorable time and send you all a big hug of thanks.
